Dhusamareb (Somali: Dhuusamareeb), also spelled Dhusa Mareb, is the capital of the central Galguduud region of Somalia.
Dhuusamarreeb, located , is an administrative center with a permanent population of 9000. The town has been in control of Islamic courts since early 2006. Its name, which might, in translation, upset those from a less robust culture than the Somali, derived from the effect of drinking the local water.
On December 28, 2008, the town was taken from Al-Shabaab militants by the moderate Sufi group Ahlu-Sunnah wal-Jamah.[1]
On April 23rd, 2011, the town was retaken by the Al-Shabaab militants from the TFG allied Sufi group Ahlu-Sunnah wal-Jamah who were forced to retreat in order to regroup. Some residents have fled for safety from the Al-Shabaab militants.
